Last time, I gave a quick intro to Dead Rail and why it’s getting so much love from players. Now, let’s dive deeper into the main objective and the core systems that make this game surprisingly deep and highly addictive. 🚂
🎯 Main Goal: Survive 80,000 Meters to Reach Mexico!
The ultimate goal in this game is to board a train and travel 80,000 meters to reach Mexico, escaping the zombie apocalypse. There, you’ll find the cure. Sounds simple? It’s not.
Dangers Along the Way
- Zombies, obviously...
- Werewolves, vampires, and outlaws too
- At night, monsters grow stronger and visibility drops
So it’s not just about running the train—you need to manage fuel, gather weapons, and upgrade your train constantly to survive.
🚂 Train Operation: The Heart of the Game

🧟 Combat & Monsters
With so many enemy types swarming in, choosing the right weapons and battle positions is critical. No ammo? You’re basically doomed.
- Ranged weapons: Revolver, rifle, shotgun, etc. → Ammo is life
- Melee weapons: Axe, pickaxe, etc. → Ammo-free but risky
- You can even run enemies over with the train (surprisingly useful!)
🛠️ Train Upgrade System
This feature is a total game-changer. You can upgrade your train with barricades and turrets to significantly boost defense.
- Install barriers like metal plates and barbed wire
- Turrets auto-fire at enemies
- Certain classes start with upgrade tools (e.g., Alamo class)
🌙 Night Time = Extra Danger
Time moves forward in the game, and when night falls, your vision is limited and enemies become far more aggressive. Sometimes, hordes of specific monsters will spawn—at that point, hiding inside your train is your best bet.
💸 In-Game Currency: Bonds
You can earn bonds by playing, which are used to unlock new classes or buy items. While you can also purchase gamepasses with Robux, the game doesn’t feel pay-to-win at all.

Dead Rail isn’t just about riding a train through chaos. It’s a tightly-designed survival game that requires planning, resource management, teamwork, and strategy. Driving alone won’t get you to the end!
